The 50th GST council meeting held in New Delhi, on July 11, 2023, under the chairpersonship of the Union Finance Minister, had many items on its agenda which among others also included some important changes in the GST rates and exemptions, trade facilitation measures, measures for streamlining GST compliances etc. While the recommendation of levying 28% GST on online gaming sector took the industry by storm; setting up of Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal with the objective of operationalizing it at the earliest is a much-awaited decision and a welcome move.
