The Government of India recently issued notifications on July 15, 2020 and July 23, 2020 for enforcement of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 (CPA 2019). The CPA 2019 was published in the official gazette of India on August 09, 2019 but did not immediately come into effect. The CPA 2019 amends and replaces the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 in its entirety. Further, for the purposes of preventing unfair trade practices in e-commerce, the Government has also notified the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 (E-Commerce Rules).
